Preparing for the Event

PDS wants to provide the best possible results for your Dealership. The items
Below are recommended. Preparation and Training are essential to Success!


• The PDS Sales Director will arrive the day before the sale to set-up and train all sales and management personnel in the PDS sales Methods & Procedures used during the sale. All salespeople and managers must attend.

Support materials will arrive one week before the event. The event package includes Large and Small Showroom Posters, deal worksheets, registration forms, point of purchase materials and hanging tags.

• Typically the inserts and other advertising will begin Tuesday or Wednesday and are staggered throughout the “Sales Event”. Be prepared for early inquiries.

• PDS suggests that all sales related personnel work open to close during the sale and be present the day prior to prepare inventory, showroom, and attend training session.

• PDS strongly encourages the dealer to increase inventory by getting trusted Wholesalers to consign as many vehicles as possible and buy '05 or newer Cars, Trucks Vans & SUV’s in the $7000 to $11,000 range that are desirable in your market!

Have ample balloons & helium for the entire inventory and showroom. Don’t forget crayon & coloring books, blocks & toys for the kids.

• Provide at least 6 to 8 (depending on showroom size) ten-foot bingo tables with paper or plastic tablecloths and 60 folding chairs to be set up in showroom. All showroom vehicles should be removed.

Invite a primary and secondary lender to be on premises for the Sale. All lenders should be made aware of the upcoming “Sales Event”. Request considerations such as rate or term concessions and ask if a buyer is available extended hours.

Refrain from wholesaling any sellable units 3 weeks prior to sale. Invite wholesaler to assist with appraisals.

• Have a minimum of one person available to run credit bureaus. Get a portable bureau machine from the Credit Bureau if needed. Most will provide and set up for the sale at no charge.

• PDS suggests that refreshments, such as popcorn, sodas and hot dogs be available each day. A “Boom Box” for loud upbeat music for atmosphere, sale & credit conversation privacy and Entertaining customers waiting to take delivery.

• The inventory should be washed the day prior to the sale. Have additional cleanup/lot attendants during the sale. Traffic Cones and Police Caution Tape are advisable. Ample customer parking space is critical.

• Have sufficient paperwork, state forms, credit applications, etc. to deliver 100 units. Have one copy machine moved to a central location. Speed and efficiency are critical.

Provide Hotdogs, Popcorn and Soft Drinks for Hungry Customers waiting for Approval/Contract and to Take Delivery. Provide Food for Salespeople/Managers and Keep Needed People on Floor.
 


Inventory Suggestions:

Minimum:

                100+ Used Car, Truck, SUV, Vans. (Call Trusted Wholesalers and Dealers for Consignments if Needed) to sell 40 - 50 units.

                Import and domestic mix is dictated by type of franchise and individual markets.

 5 years Old & Newer:

                 Ideal age range of at least 50% of the inventory should be 5 years old or newer in $7,000 to $11000 cost range with under 70k mi..

                 These offer the longest term and best rate financing available.

 The Larger the Inventory the More You Make:

With 150 units in stock ready for resale, matching the above mix, you virtually guarantee a Successful Sales Event generating $165,000 gross profit or more.

 Dollar Range:           

Your goal for an average cost of this inventory should be '05 or newer between $7000 and $11,000.  Do not let the miles scare you as anything that has less than 70,000 miles will work and you can normally make a better buy on the higher mileage pieces. Always stay under 90k mi except for the occasional $3k to $6k cash car.
